Are there incentives and tax credits for electric vehicles?

When you file your federal tax return, you may be able to claim the Plug-In Electric Drive Vehicle Credit for the tax year that you purchase your vehicle in. Some EV buyers also may have access to credits and other incentives through their state.

Can an EV be charged with a standard power outlet at home?

You can use a 110-volt power outlet to charge your Mercedes-EQ car or SUV. However, charging is completed more quickly with a 240-volt outlet, which is comparable to the power outlet for your clothes dryer. You can request professional installation of a 240-volt wall unit in your home by contacting a licensed electrician.

Is it expensive to charge an electric vehicle at home?

By charging your electric vehicle at home, you will notice that your electricity bill increases slightly. Generally, the average U.S. resident pays 12 cents per kilowatt-hour for electricity. This means that charging for 15,000 miles per year will increase your electricity bill by roughly $540. This is compared to the average cost of gas for a vehicle. Based on 15,000 miles driven per year, you may easily pay $1,400 or more at the gas station. Keep in mind that home electricity costs are generally far more stable than gas prices.

Do combustion engines and electric motors perform differently?

When you test drive a Mercedes-EQ model at our dealership soon, you may quickly notice a few differences between EVs and combustion engine vehicles. Torque is generated immediately by an electric motor so that you can enjoy faster acceleration and more torque. Also, combustion engines tend to cause vibrations when shifting gears and idling. This is not present with an electric motor. Overall, an electric motor has a quieter, smoother performance.

How frequently should you replace your EV’s battery?

The batteries in our Mercedes-EQ models are durable and long-lasting. Most drivers do not need to worry about replacing the battery throughout a typical ownership period.
